We are a group of about 55 dedicated volunteer musicians of all ages from Bellefonte and the surrounding communities. New members are always welcome, there are no dues or auditions; if you can play, you can join! We play a variety of music: traditional marches, contemporary and classic compositions for concert band and wind ensemble, transcriptions of movie, classical and operatic music, lighter numbers and novelty tunes, and patriotic arrangements. So, whether you are playing in the band or a member of our audience, there is something for everyone!
Our normal rehearsal seasons coincide with the school year, as we meet weekly at the Bellefonte Middle School band room. In early September we begin work on Christmas music for several concerts in December. Summer rehearsals begin in early February. We perform throughout the summer, usually about a dozen dates, mostly outdoor venues.
We count among our strengths our family-oriented, dedicated members, an encouraging, supportive atmosphere, our enthusiastic director, and the support of the community. The energy of our youth is balanced by the wisdom of our experienced members. We are blessed with several current and retired music educators, but most players are average amateurs. Some have played for many years; some have recently "come back" to their instrument.
The current BCB leadership is actively working to foster new relationships with other ensembles, both scholastic and civic. We continually evaluate performance opportunities to maximize exposure and fun. The annual calendar always includes one or two dates to allow members and their families to share a meal and enjoy some fellowship.
If you've ever considered participating in instrumental music, this is the place to do so! If you're not sure, feel welcome to sit in at a rehearsal and just observe. We rehearse in the band room of the Bellefonte Area Middle School on Tuesday evenings at 7:30.
